Last year over 400,000 visitors came to Seljalandsfoss. This year the number of visitors to Seljalandsfoss has expanded considerably and the amount of visitors continues to increase. Despite having been a popular travel destination before, Seljalandsfoss has never been as popular as it is now.
Plans for increased infrastructure in the area are underway, since the parking area has reached its capacity and there are often long queues of people waiting to see the waterfall. Lavatory facilities are also a concern for the local municipality, especially since current costs are two million Icelandic krónur (13.000 €/17.400$). Other plans include building a path alongside the waterfall and including a balcony behind it according to municipal leader Ísólfur Gylfi Pálmason as reported by the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service.
