The residents of the small fishing village Tálknafjörður in the southern Westfjords reject plans to market a tiny geothermal pool on the outskirts of the village as a tourist destination. The residents, landowners and municipal government are unanimous in their opposition to any ideas to include the pool in promotional materials or advertising for tourism in the region.
According to the local news site Bæjarins besta the residents oppose ideas to commercialize and market the pool which is used by locals. The upkeep of the pool, called Pollurinn (the puddle) is entirely in the hands of locals who have volunteered both time and resources to maintain the pool.
The pool is listed on numerous travel websites and comes up on Google.
