Tour company Secret Local Adventures has requested a partnership with Hrunamannahreppur district in south Iceland. The company operates within the district, offering off grid adventures around the area.
Egill Jóhannsson and Guðmann Unnsteinsson, who both reside in Hrunamannahreppur, run the company. Their aim is to bring guests on short adventures to visit secret locations, known only to locals.
The duo wishes to “adopt” the old mountain hut Heiðarárkofi and turn it into a learning centre about the outlaw Fjalla-Eyvindur who, starting in 1760, spent 20 years living in the highlands with his wife Halla.
The pair has also requested permission to mark a hiking route to the hidden Búðarárfoss waterfall. “The waterfall is well hidden. Its whereabouts is even a mystery to many locals,” Guðmann told Fréttablaðið newspaper. Adding: “It’s a secret paradise.”
