A group of investors has shown interest in transforming the Pearl into a spa, reports the National Broadcasting Service. The Pearl is a dome-like building located on top of hot water storage tanks on Öskjuhlíð hill, central Reykjavík. The building includes a revolving restaurant and cocktail bar on the top floor but other than that, much of the space within the Pearl is disused.
Reykjavík City Council has sought third party ideas on what to do with the building, one such idea is to create a nature exhibition on the ground floor.
Local architectural firm Zeppelin arkitektar created the spa which would include outdoor hot tubs on top of the water storage tanks where guests can enjoy the spectacular view over Öskuhlíðin hill, Reykjavík and the Reykjanes peninsula to the south. The estimated cost of the project is 8 to 10 billion ISK.
