Ólafur has harnessed his obsession with light into a profession, and with the help of his friend, solar engineer Frederik Ottesen, the two have created a revolutionary work of art called the Little Sun. The Little Sun is a solar-powered LED light that provides clean, reliable, affordable light to 1.6 billion people worldwide without access to electricity.
Now, the Little Sun has made its way to Reykjavik. According to RUV.is, Ólafsson has requested to promote the Little Sun in a Kiosk in the middle of Reykjavik. The world-famous artist is hoping to secure the location for over a month, which has been approved by the Development Office, but is pending confirmation from the city council.
