Little elbow room to increase other professions’ wages 2232

After a series of strikes, Icelandic doctors reached an agreement with the government regarding wages. Representatives for two of Iceland’s largest labour unions claim the agreement has set an example. According to RÚV, other unions are expected to follow suit in wage-discussions come spring.

Icelandic doctors will receive a considerable wage-increase which is to be introduced in stages. The Minister of Finance, Bjarni Benediktsson, says the state-budget allows little leeway to increase other professions’ wages, and fears such increases could cause inflation.
