The fire appears to have come up in the eastern half of the building, while Halldór’s studio was located in the western end. Halldór told visir.is that he fears all of his artwork was destroyed either by the fire and smoke or water during the operations of the fire department. “All my work is in there, everything is destroyed I think.”

Halldór looked at helplessly as the last years of his life went up in smoke: “My studio is in the western part of the building, while the fire seems to have come up in the eastern part. But I have not yet been told anything. They continue to hosing down building, pumping water into my studio at the back. It looks like all my works are destroyed, the labour of the last two, three years.” In addition to artwork his computers and other worldly belongings were located in the studio. “It’s just awful,” he told visir.is

In addition to the studio and repair shop a small gym is located in the building. Halldór suspects the fire might have started in the gym. “Of course I couldn’t know, but the firefighters were concentrating on that spot trying to put out the fire.”
