Large snow plows have been working to clear Lake Mývatn, North Iceland, of snow in preparation for the 8th instalment of Fast and the Furious, which is in part filmed in Iceland.

The chairman of Skútustaðahreppur district council, Jón Óskar Pétursson, hopes to lure more big-budget film projects to the area in the future.
“The project has positive effects on the local economy. For instance, a number of local contractors have been hired to work on the project,” Jón Óskar told the National Broadcasting Service.

The film Oblivion was in part filmed in and around the Mývatn area in 2012. Hopes are that the current project will make Mývatn and Skútustaðahreppur district an even more feasible location to shoot future projects in.

“The opportunities surrounding big-budget film projects are many and great. And in the process, residents and local businesses will develop skills and know-how that will be of good use further down the road.”
