King Kong coming to Iceland – filming to start this year 3371

Big-budget Hollywood project Kong: Skull Island will be filmed partly in Iceland according to Empire and other entertainment media. 

Skull Island is the name of the fictional island where the giant ape Kong was found and captured in the 1933 classic King Kong.

The film has been remade twice (in 1976 and 2005) but this time around filmmakers will take the audiences on a trip with a team of explorers to the home of Kong, the mysterious and dangerous Skull Island

The director of the film is Jordan Vogt-Roberts who is best known for The Kings of Summer and among cast members are Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston.

Hiddleston came to Iceland for the filming of Thor 2: The Dark World, and has some warm memories from his stay: “… we actually shot some of Thor 2 in Iceland and it was amazing when we were actually there, driving up these volcanoes listening to Sigur Rós. It suddenly all made sense. I think I must have Icelandic ancestry – I haven't researched it, this is completely unofficial, I just feel very at home there,” he told GQ Magazine in an interview.

According to Empire filming will start in Hawaii in October at the latest, before heading to Iceland and Vietnam. 

Kong: Skull Island is scheduled for release on 10 March 2017.
