Keflavík International Airport has been selected as the best airport in Europe, with under five million passengers by The Airport Council International (ACI), which is a trade group representing over 500 airports in 45 European countries.

According to a press release by Keflavík Airport the awards recognise excellence and achievement across a whole range of disciplines relating to airport operations.

ACI has previously ranked Keflavík among the best airports of Europe. In 2009, 2011 and 2014 the airport came out in first place, and last year it landed in third place.

The awards were presented during a The ACI Europe General Assembly, Congress and Exhibition in Athens, Greece, 20 to 22 June.

Iceland has experienced a dramatic year-by-year growth of travellers in recent years. The awards confirm that the facilities and staff of Keflavík Airport have managed to maintain good service during those testing times.
