The video of Kazakh millionaire Goga Ashkenazi dancing around within the restricted area near the Holuhraun eruption, has gained much media attention in Iceland. Local authorities say the group threw caution to the wind by entering the eruption area.
The restricted area surrounding Holuhraun is considered extremely dangerous. The area is only accessible to scientists and members of the media. Anyone entering the area is only allowed to dwell within it for a limited amount of time and must carry gas masks due to high emissions of toxic sulphur dioxide.
The National Broadcasting Service reports that the case is now being investigated by the Húsavík Police Department in North Iceland. Víðir Reynisson, who works for the Icelandic Civil Defence, describes the group’s behaviour as carless and says they put themselves in grave danger by entering the area.
Goga posted the controversial video on her Instagram account three days ago with the caption “From the heart of the Earth”.
