On the corner of Bankastræti and Lækjargata a small, yellow and red hut has been placed in the middle of the small Bernhöftstorfa square. Inside you’ll find Kaffi GÆS, a small café run by five individuals with intellectual and development disabilities who all recently graduated from the National University.
Kaffi GÆS opened for business last summer in Tjarnarbíó theatre, but has now found a new location in the aforementioned wooden hut.
“The house was moved to its current location on Monday. We screamed, shouted and laughed us silly due to sheer excitement,” explained Steinunn Ása Þorvaldsdóttir, a member of the GÆS group, in an interview with Chanel 2 yesterday evening.
She adds: “We are very passionate about what we do and our plan is to bring life to this little spot this summer.”
The five-some expect the house to be ready and open for business by Sunday.
