Holidays do not necessarily have to mean some R&R – it can include a gruelling 290 kilometre (189 miles) bike race around Iceland’s second largest glacier. Glacier 360 is a 3-day long bike race that takes participants through the astonishing landscapes of Iceland’s interior and around Langjökull glacier, west Iceland.
Made in Mountains, a local travel agency that specialises in custom made cycling tours, organises the event. The race begins at Geysir geothermal area on 16 August and ends at Gullfoss waterfall three days later. Teams are made up of two people and the track covers rugged gravel roads, steep climbs, dirt tracks and river crossings.
According to the agency’s website, the second day of the race is the most taxing as cyclists battle past the north face of Langjökull glacier.
