As predicted musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson scored an Oscar nomination when the 87th Academy Award nominations were announced Thursday in Los Angeles.
Jóhann is nominated in the category Best Original Score for the film The Theory of Everything (you can listen below).
Jóhann took the top honour at the Golden Globe awards last Sunday for his music to the film and has also been nominated for the BAFTA awards.
Director James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything is the story of one of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking, and Jane Wilde the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s, starring Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones.
The film received a total of four Oscar nominations.
Jóhann is the sxith Icelander to receive an Oscar nomination but no Icelander has yet scooped the awards. Previously director Friðrik Þór Friðriksson was nominated in the catecory Best Foreign Language Film for Children of Nature, musician Björk and writer Sjón were nominated for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture (featured in Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark) and director Rúnar Rúnarsson and producer Þórir Snær Sigurjónsson were nominated for the Best Live Action Short Film for The Last Farm.
