The BAFTA nominations were announced this morning and among this year’s nominees is Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson who is nominated for Best Film Score for Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve.
“Denis didn’t use temp music while editing, so I began writing the music with a completely blank slate. This was both daunting and exhilarating,” Jóhann said about the process in an interview with Wearemoviegeeks.com.
The film received a total of three nominations: Benicio Del Toro is nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Roger Deakins for Best Cinematography. The award ceremony will be broadcasted live from London by BBC One on 14 February.
Last year, Jóhann was awarded a Golden Globe for Best Film Score for The Theory of Everything. The score for the film also earned him an Oscar and BAFTA nomination.
