Japan Airlines will fly direct between Japan and Iceland this September. This is the fourth year the airline will fly direct between Keflavík and Japan. The direct link will serve the growing Japanese interest in travel to Iceland. The airline will make three flights between Tokyo and Keflavík and one flight between Osaka and Keflavík.
According to the turisti.is, a local news site focusing on international travel, the airline was planning to sell empty seats on its return flights from Keflavík to Japan to Icelandic travellers planning to visit Japan. In the past the seats have not been offered for sale, meaning the planes have flown empty back to Japan on their first flights to Iceland. However, negotiations with an Icelandic travel agency had broken down and the planes, which carry 300 passengers, will therefore continue to fly empty on their return trip during the first flights between Tokyo and Keflavík and Osaka and Keflavík.
