The Icelandic Coast Guard airlifted two Italian travellers to safety yesterday in Snæfellsnes peninsula, West Iceland. The travellers had walked out on to a rock near Ytri Tunga, Snæfellsnes peninsula, to photograph seals and became stranded on the skerry during high tide. The two men called the police for assistance, who then contacted the Coast Guard.

According to the National Broadcasting Service’s report, the Italians looked somewhat embarrassed when they reached land, but were cheered up by local police officers who said the episode would make for a good story when they return home.
