Israeli man who was injured in accident at Goðafoss waterfall likely to make full recovery 8493

A foreign traveler who was injured when he fell down a steep crevice in the cliffs near Goðafoss waterfall in North Iceland is recovering. According to a statement from the Police in NE Iceland the man's injuries were less serious than initially feared.

Shortly after two in the afternoon on Sunday an Israeli man in his fifties fell 8 meters (26 ft) down a steep crevice downstream from Goðafoss waterfall. The man landed in the rocks and boulders along the riverbank, sustaining injuries to his head and back. It took first responders 75 minutes to reach the man. He was both cold and wet when help arrived, and was only partially conscious.

Initially it was feared that the man might have suffered serious head or spinal injuries, but he had miraculously he had not broken any bones in the fall and his injuries were less severe than initially feared. He did, however, sustain a concussion in the fall.

The man is currently recovering at Landspitalinn National University Hospital in Reykjavík.
