Yesterday hackers attacked the web page of A Reykjavík day care centre Klambrar. For a while the page showed the flag of the terrorist organization ISIS, along with a message condemning military action by Western powers in Syria and support for the occupation of Palestinian territories. The song “Soldiers of Allah” played in the background. The local news site visir.is points out that the YouTube video of the song contains images from Iceland, including shots of Reynisfjara beach.
This is not the first time an Icelandic web page has been hacked by individuals claiming to act on the behalf of ISIS. In November a web page of the Icelandic Lutheran Mission, used for a prayer assembly with US Teleevangelist Franklin Graham was hacked by someone claiming to represent ISIS, and in September the web page of Njáls Saga Centre was similarly hacked to display a message supporting ISIS.
In 2014 it was revealed that a group linked to ISIS had registered a domain name in Iceland, khalifah.is. The domain was terminated by ISNIC, the Icelandic web hosting service after the matter was brought to its attention.
