The police department in Reykjavík have finished investigating the fire in Skeifan that occurred on the 6th of July this month. The police have determined that the fire had its origins in the Fönn building, which is a dry cleaning company, and was an accident.
Apparently, the fire started near ironing machines within the facility; most likely the fire started due to the immense heat and oxidation after the washing and drying of mixed cotton material.
According to the police, the heat within the facility was tremendous causing the fire to spread out rapidly to the other buildings. This was one of the biggest fires in the history of the capital. No people were hurt.
