According to Fréttablaðið newspaper, international tour operators are interested in offering guided tours to the Holuhraun eruption, North Iceland.
“As of now, we are only flirting with the idea. However, international tour operators have shown a keen interest in offering package tours to Holuhraun as soon as the area opens up to the public,” explains Arnheiður Jóhannsdóttir, managing director of Visit North Iceland.
The area north of Vatnajökull glacier was closed to traffic shortly after seismic activity was first detected in Bárðarbunga volcano.
“As long as scientist consider a subglacial eruption an imminent threat the area will remain closed to traffic,” says Einar Pétur Heiðarsson, specialist with the Civil Defence.
