A woman who sued a horse riding company after sustaining injuries when she was thrown off a horse has been awarded damages, reports news website Vísir.

The accident occurred in 2013. The woman was part of a larger group scheduled to set out on a 4-day-long horse riding trip organised by Kálfholt, a horse rental. The trip was intended for experienced riders and had been advertised as such. However, the tour guide estimated that the group was less experienced than had been expected, thus, calmer horses had been taken into the herd, among those was the horse that the woman fell off of.

According to the company’s owner, the horse in question was a gentle children’s horse. Despite that, the horse darted off as soon as the woman had mounted, resulting in the accident. The woman was left unconscious after the fall.

The judge said the company had shown a lack of judgement when allowing the woman to mount the horse before assessing whether it was suitable or not for a beginner.
