Icelandic climber Vilborg Arna Gissuradóttir has announced that she has ended her expedition up the world’s highest mountain following the tracic events last Friday when sixteen Nepalese guides were killed in a devastating avalanche.
Ingólfur Axelsson is still at Everest base camp. He will proceed with this plans to make a summit attempt if possible. Nepalese guides that work on Everest are on strike and are considering leaving the mountain. There is a real possibility that the mountain will be closed. Several expeditions have already announced they are returning home.
The peak climbing season was due to start at the beginning of May.
