The most famous Icelandic cat is no doubt Pál Dánielsdóttir, a small tabby kitty. Pál has the awesome responsibility of being the Mousekeeper at Fosshótel at Hellnar village on Snæfellsnes peninsula. She is also a social-media superstar who has made appearances on cat-themed social media sites like Cats on Catnip.

Pál is a two year old feline, born in the town of Selfoss in South Iceland in 2016. Pál is a rare female version of the popular male name Páll, while the last name Dáníelsdóttir is a patronym, which translates as The daugheter of Dáneiel. Pál was adopted by a hungarian couple, Dániel Puskás and Zsuszi Sabó, who moved to Iceland in 2016 to work at Fosshótel Núpar near Kirkjubæjarklaustur village in South-East Iceland. When the couple moved to Hellnar they took Pál with them.

The couple has set up an Instagram account for Pál which already has nearly 1,100 followers.

Not just gorgeous, but also a hard-working kitty
Pál, líke other Icelandic maidens, is not only beautiful but both tough and hard working, so of course she was offered a job at the hotel. Zsuszi told the local newspaper Morgunblaðið that Pál is an accomplished hunter. She works hard at hunting mice, so there was never any question that she should get her own employee card.

A spokesman for Fosshótel told Morgunblaðið that so far Pál is the only Mousekeeper employed at the hotel chain, but that the management is looking into adding more Mousekeepers. We try to create a positive and fun atmosphere for our employees and guests. This is an kind of experimental position, but if this goes well we will look into adding more Mousekeepers.
