IMO issues weather warning. Bad travel conditions in most regions. Travel in northern regions not recommended 1788

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a weather warning for most parts of the country today and tomorrow. An increasing northern strong gale or storm is expected in most regions today, first in the northwester regions, but spreading to East Iceland by afternoon. A strong gale is expected in the eastern and southern regions by evening followed by rain or sleep during the day.
The IMO warns against travelling in northern areas today (Monday October 20) and tomorrow (Tuesday, October 21).

Temperatures range from 0 to 5 degrees C (32 to 42 Fahrenheit).

Tomorrow (Tuesday October 21): Strong gale or storm in East Iceland tomorrow, but lighter winds in West Iceland. Snowfall in northern areas. Temperatures widely around the zero mark Celsius (32 Fahrenheit).

Road conditions:
Travel between regions could prove troublesome today and tomorrow, especially for vehicles not prepared for winter driving.

North Iceland: The IMO and Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration advise against travelling in the area today.

West Iceland: There is a snowstorm on Fróðárheiði mountain road today. Icy patches on roads near Borgarfjörður are to be expected. Snow on roads in Brattabrekka.

South Iceland: Snow on Hellisheiði mountain road and in Þrengslin. Icy patches to be expected on roads.

East Iceland: Snow and icy patches to be expected on most roads.

Westfjords: Snow or sludge on roads in Westfjords and the Strandir region.
