The Icelandic Met Office has issued a storm warning for the central highlands today, Tuesday, with winds reaching more than 20 metres per second (45 mph/72 km per hour). Strong winds are also expected in the south and west tonight and tomorrow morning.

River levels in southern and western regions are likely to rise due to heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours. Travellers are advised to plan accordingly.

Wednesday:
Southerly winds, strongest in the west and considerable rain. It is forecast to be a mainly dry day in the northeast with some occasional light drizzle.

Thursday:
Dry day in the north. Other parts of the country will see some rain, especially in the southeast. Wind and rain are expected to decrease by evening. Maximum temperature 17 degrees Celsius (63 Fahrenheit) in the north.
