A foreign traveller was injured in a car accident on the mountain road over the heath Öxi in East Iceland yesterday. The injured traveller was taken to the hospital in the town of Neskaupsstaður.

Five foreign travellers were in the car, which rolled over and ended off the road. The local newspaper Morgunblaðið reports that according to police in East Iceland the cause of the accident was icing on the road. Police urges travellers to show caution as conditions on roads around Iceland are difficult due to icing and frost.

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Adminstration warns that ice patches have formed on roads in South Iceland. There is also considerable icing on the road over Hellisheiði, between Reykjavík and the village of Hveragerði. Motorists are also warned specifically to watch out for ice on roads in the Westfjords and on all mountain roads and on the ring road where it crosses heaths or mountains.
