Iceland’s Government Cabinet signs a UN Equality Agreement 538

This is the first time in history that all government offices of one sovereign state sign a pact like this one at the same time. On behalf of the government as a whole, a treaty regarding social responsibility was also signed as reported by mbl.is.

CEO of UN Women in New York, Kristin Hetle, was present at the time of signing this morning, and said that this step was a confirmation of Iceland’s on-going leadership in lessening the gender gap.

By signing the agreement, the Icelandic Government declares its unwavering support for the paradigm presented in the pact and commits to follow those paradigms to the best of its ability.

Iceland has topped the World Economic Forum’s list of gender equality five years in a row. 

The Icelandic government signed a UN convention this morning confirming its plan to follow the UN Women Equality Treaty in regards to equality of the sexes and empowerment of women.
