Iceland’s first 5-star hotel will soon rise next to the Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík 2711

Iceland’s first 5-star hotel will soon rise in down-town Reaykjvík, next to the Harpa Concert Hall. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year and is expected to be completed in 2018.

The 250-room hotel will have a magnificent panoramic view over the beautiful Esja mountain range and the magical Snæfellsnes peninsula to the north. The hotel will feature a number of restaurants, conference rooms and a spa.

The project will be carried out by US-based real estate development company Carpenter & Company, while an international hotel-chain will operate the hotel.

The project site itself is part of wider development plans scheduled to take place by the old harbour. Carpenter & Company’s CEO, Richard L. Friedman, describes the location as a world-class site where the ocean and the harbour meet the city.

“We’re very confident about this project. We’ll announce in a few weeks-time the operator, it will be a world class hotel company that operates all over the world. They are very bullish on it and very excited about it, and we are as well,” he told Channel 2 news yesterday.
