Icelandic national football player joining one of China’s best teams 2275

Icelandic international striker Viðar Örn Kjartansson is on the verge of joining Chinese football club Jiangsu Guoxin-Sainty. He is travelling to China to have a medical.

The 24-year-old will reportedly sign for a fee of about $3.5 million and take home close to $1 million in wages after tax.

Viðar Örn was brought up through the ranks of Selfoss town football club in South Iceland (population 6.756). He played one season in Iceland’s top division with Fylkir but was sold to Norwegian team Vålerenga in the autumn of 2013 en became the leading goal scorer of Norway’s top league in 2014.

The Chinese Super League has enjoyed a rebirth in recent times with big investment in foreign players. Jiangsu Guoxin-Sainty is based in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu province in Eastern China.  The team plays its home matches in the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center with capacity of 61.000.

Last year the club finished in the eight seat of the Super League. Their best ever finish was in 2012 when they ended up as runners-up.
