The unusual title is a precursor for an unusual story, which highlights a community's false prosperity, and the ultimate ruin and rebirth at the hands of a power-hungry mayor. The plot provides an obvious parallel to the Icelandic banking collapse of 2008.
The music performed in the show is a powerful mix of emotional rock with influences from Radiohead, David Bowie, Grizzly Bear, the Flaming Lips, and Sufjan Stevens. Originally the musical's producers wanted to perform the show in London. However, New York seemed like the perfect place to premier a musical with this type of quirky storyline. The show begins performances at the Minetta Lane Theater on July 31st, but officially opens on August 13th.
