13. mar 2023 20:02

One of Iceland’s more famous denizens for the past few years has been Gunnar Nelson who is closely associated with Mjölnir, which is a mixed martial arts and self defense gym. For the past years he has rocketed up the stratosphere of mixed martial arts, by specializing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Currently, Gunnar is undefeated in his fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship League tonight (Saturday).

Gunnar will be fighting Zak Cummings in Dublin at UFC Fight Night 46. The fight will be in the O2 Arena and about 9.000 Irish supporters will be supporting Gunnar.

Gunnar is not only a favorite son of Iceland because apparently Dubliners have adopted Gunnar according to an article on vísir.is, and it appears that Irish people have taken a shine to Gunnar. The reason why is that Gunna has fought in Dublin before and he trains there often with his trainer John Kavanagh; and when Gunnar has been walking the streets of Dublin for the last few days, Dubliners have shouted out to him to take Zak Cummings down.

During the media day on Wednesday, Gunnar was the next most popular fighter after the home lad Connor McGregor. Meanwhile, Icelanders here across the country will be supporting Gunnar and it will be possible too see the fight live at Smárabíó, and the ticket costs 2.500 krónur and the bar Bjarni Fel will also show the fight.
