Icelandic men's national football team in mismatched socks to honor of Down Syndrome Day 6208

The Icelandic national men's football team wore mismatching socks at practice in Parma today to show their support of International Downs Syndrome day. The team is in Italy preparing for a March 24 match with Kosovo in the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

Midfielder Ólafur Ingi Skúlason told the local news site Vísir that it was wonderful to see the entire team supporting the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Downs Syndrome. It was wonderful. Today is a day of joy, he told vísir. Ólafur has a six year old son with Downs Syndrome.

This is an issue which I am passionate about. We must all celebrate the diversity of human life, and the birth of my son six years ago transformed my life for the better.

Ólafur tweeted a photo of his son to celebrate the day and call for inclusion: My son is the coolest kid ever! Today is the international Downs awareness day and we celebrate diversity
