Icelandic author Arnaldur Indriðason was awarded the Icelandic Export Award on Friday. President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson presented the award at the presidential residence at Bessastaðir.

“Icelandic authors have become quite sought after abroad. Now seems to be our time,” Arnaldur told Fréttablaðið newspaper. “I think that literature is our best export product and this award serves as motivation for writers to keep up the good work.”
Arnaldur is best known for his crime novels, most of which centre around the detective Erlendur. He has received many literary awards over the years, including the Glass Key award, a literature prize for the best Nordic crime novel, in 2002 and 2003, the Gold Dagger Award in 2005, and the RBA International Prize for Crime Writing in 2013.
