Fans of heavy metal are flocking to Neskaupstaður where the annual music festival Eistnaflug will start officially today. The managing director of the festival expects 1.700 people at the festival, where people can revel in being different.
In an interview on rúv.is, Stéfan Magnússon, the originator of the festival, reports that the cream of the crop in Iceland’s heavy metal scene will be at Eistnaflug. However, this year the music festival will feature more than heavy metal; including such bands as Reykjavíkurdætur, Jónas Sig og Ritvélarnar and Retro Stéfansson.
The reputation of the festival has received quite a bit of notice for being quite peaceful. Despite the heavy partying, Stéfan says that it reminds people of a family reunion and the rule is that “no one is allowed to be an idiot. In rare cases something might happen and people are pointed out that such behavior is not acceptable”.
Furthermore, according to Stéfan, at Eistnaflug people have found their life-partner, gotten engaged or celebrated a wedding along with their children. All in all, this is a beautiful nerd festival, where people are allowed to dress differently and be different without being harassed.
