Icelandic fish is the most popular imported fish in North America, according to Hlynur Guðjónsson, the Icelandic trade commissioner for North America.

The United States is the largest single market for Icelandic farmed seafood. In 2013 56% of salmon farmed in Iceland and 38% of farmed arctic char was exported to the United States according to Hlynur.

Iceland’s fish export to North America in 2013 was the largest since 2005. The total value was 17.6 billion ISK (132 million USD) according to Statistic Iceland.

In comparison the value of fish products exported to Europe was 218 billion ISK (1.64 billion USD). UK was the largest single market with value of 44.4 billion ISK (333.8 million USD).
