Icelandic entrepreneur creates a Tinder-style app, for dogs 3889

A young Icelandic programmer is raising capital through the crowdfunding app Karolina Fund to develop and market a new smartphone app for dog owners, to help them find playmates for their dogs. The app could also be used to help locate lost dogs and share ideas and tips on things like good walking trails to take your dog.

The app is designed by a young woman, Guðfinna Kristinsdóttir who describes it as a “kind of Tinder” for people who are searching for playmates for their dogs:

“You would be able to swipe left or right depending on whether the dog fits your dog. Like my dog, for example. He is big, but gets scared when he’s around other big dogs. So, I would search for smaller dogs as playmates for him.”

Guðfinna is also one of the founders of an Icelandic Facebook group “The Dog Society”, which is one of the most active Icelandic social media communities. She tells the local news site visir.is that people who have lost their dogs regularly post calls for help to the group. “It is very expensive to pay the dog catcher to have a lost dog returned, so it’s extremely valuable to be able to mobilize the community to help.

She tells visir.is she has been searching for dog apps, but not found any which merge all of these features. She plans on designing the app and its look, but has found a programmer to help her with some of the technical features. She aims at releasing the app in February if she manages to raise enough funds for the development process. Guðfinna has already raise 800 EUR out of the 3,500 she aims at raising.
