Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur is set to direct the film Vikingr for Universal Pictures. The script, written by Baltasar and Ólafur Egill Egilsson, is based on tales of from the Icelandic Sagas and tells of early Viking settlers.
Baltasar and Universal have partnered up before. Baltasar recently directed “Everest” for Universal, Working Title and Cross Creek Pictures, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightly, Josh Brolin, Clive Standen, Sam Worthington and Robyn Wright. Baltasar also helmed Universal’s “2 Guns” and “Contraband”, both films starred Mark Wahlberg in the main role.
Kormákur will not only direct Vikingr, he will also produce the film under his RVK Studios banner, other producers include Marc Platt Productions’ Marc Platt and Adam Siegel, Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Nathalie Marciano.
