Two Icelandic brothers have designed a small portable wind turbine which they believe will make it easier for the public to utilize wind energy. The manufacturing of the turbines will start this November, thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. Ultimately their goal is for the world to adopt what they call the “Icelandic way” of using only green, renewable energy.
Generate energy on the go
The turbine, which the brothers have named Trinity, comes in four sizes. Each one is foldable and can therefore be put up or taken down with very little effort, as well as making it transportable. The smallest turbines can be taken camping or hiking, and are perfect for the generation of electricity to charge phones or other small appliances, while the larger turbines can be stored on a boat, car or RV and set up to generate electricity far away from the electrical grid, or simply as a back-up device.
The brothers tell the local news site visir.is that aside from the small size of the turbines, what makes them unique is that they combine all elements in a single unit, including the batteries and other components, making them both easier to install and cheaper. The ultimate goal, they tell visir.is, is to allow people to live without worrying about paying electricity bills.
Tinkerers and no newcomers to crowdfunding
Although the manufacturing of the turbines has not yet started the brothers have already sold several hundred units with the help of the crowdfunding page Kickstarter. All told the brothers have raised 150,000 USD, mostly to customers in the US.
The brothers, Ágúst Arnar Ágústsson and Einar Ágústsson, brothers, have previously been in the news for their innovative designs, as their company Janulus caught attention for an innovative cable which is capable of connecting USB, HDMI, Lightning as well as audio ports with a simple adapter. The cable, which was also funded through Kickstarter, is manufactured under the slogan “One cable for everything”.
You can support the project or order your own portable Trinity wind turbine through Kickstarter.
