“I received a phone call last week and was told that (Mick) Jagger and (Martin) Scorsese wanted to use one of our songs in their new television series. We were given three days to complete the song,” says Jökull Júlíusson, singer of popular band Kaleo. Musician Mick Jagger and film director Martin Scorsese used the band’s song in a trailer for the upcoming HBO series, Vinyl.

The drama will premiere on the 14th of February next year and stars Bobby Cannavale as 1970’s record executive Richie Finestra who’s trying to resurrect his record label. The pilot was written by Terence Winter, known for Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos, directed by Scorsese, and produced by Jagger.

Kaleo is currently touring the States. The band, however, was forced to cancel three concerts and head into a studio in Pittsburgh to complete the song for the trailer. Jökull tells newsagent Vísir that the band’s record label, Atlantic Record, pitched the unfinished song to the show’s producers, who loved it. The band hopes to be able to make up for cancelled shows, but Jökull adds: “One simply doesn’t say ‘no’ to Mick Jagger, when he asks for one of your songs.”
