Icelandic air mechanic on vacation saved the day 1155

8. jan 2014 16:11

Davíð Aron Guðnason, an Icelandic air mechanic on vacation, was to fly back to Iceland from Almería, Spain, with Primera Air yesterday. However, when a problem with the aircraft’s start valve presented itself, and no air mechanic on site, Davíð Aron and his fellow passengers were facing a rather long delay. Rather than sitting idly by,  Davíð Aron decided to take matters into his own hands and repair the plane.

“I spoke to the captain on board and he put me through to the airline’s head mechanic who’s based in Stockholm, Sweden. He told me that there was a problem with the plane’s starter valve – which is relatively easy to fix. It only took me about thirty minutes to repair,” Davíð Aron explained in an interview with news website Vísir.is yesterday.

Thanks to Davíð Aron the plane was only an hour behind its scheduled departure, and according to our hero of the day his fellow passengers were so thankful they burst into applause after the job well done.
