The Icelandic actor Sverrir Guðnason will play the role of investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the latest Hollywood installment in the highly acclaimed Scandinavian-Noir Millennium series. The role of Blomkvist was played by Daniel Craig in the 2011 The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The films are based on the original trilogy by Swedish crime writer Stig Larsson.

The film is produced by Sony, which has been working on a sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo since 2015. The original film was a re-make of 2009 Swedish miniseries based on the Millennium trilogy. Sony started production on a movie based on the second novel in the series, The Girl Who Played with Fire, but scrapped those plans, opting instead for a film based on a sequel to the original novels, written by David Lagercrantz after Stig Larsson passed away. The book topped the US bestseller list when it came out in 2015.
The Girl in the Spider's Web features the characters familiar to fans of the original novels and films, the fierce computer hacker Lisabeth Salander and the brooding investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist fighting corporate and government corruption.

The other lead role of the movie will be played by Claire Foy who replaced Rooney Mara, who played Lisbet Salander in the 2011 Hollywood adaption of the first Millennium novel. The addition of Sverrir to the cast means the Millenium series will again have an Icelandic connection, as Noomi Rapace who played Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish miniseries grew up in Iceland and speaks fluent Icelandic.
Sverrir was born in Sweden, but grew up in Iceland. He has played in numerous Swedish TV shows, including the Wallander series. He is perhaps best known for his role as Swedish tennis legend Björn Borg in 2017 Borg vs. McEnroe
The Girl in the Spider's Nest is directed by Fade Alvarez and will be released in October 2018.
