The Icelandic women's national football team kicks off its EURO 2017 campaign against France at 18:45 local time this evening. The match will be shown on a giant screen in downtown Reykjavík.

This is the third time the women's team makes the finals. When the team qualified for the 2009 tournament in Finland, it was the first major football tournament Iceland took part in.

Since then, the women's team made it to the quarter finals of the 2013 edition Sweden and the men's team played its first major championship in EURO 2016 to much fanfare last year. It too made the quarter finals before being dumped out by hosts France.

France undefeated in 2017
Iceland's first opponents in Group C of Euro 2017 in the Netherlands are no push-overs. France is currently the third highest team in the FIFA world ranking. The team kept a clean sheet throughout the qualifying campaign and is undefeated in eleven matches this year.

The Icelandic team is currently ranked 19th in the world. Austria and Switzerland are the two other teams in Group C. Iceland's next matches are on the 22th and the 26th of July.

The match this evening will be played at the Koning Willem II stadium in Tilburg.

Like last summer, Iceland's matches will be shown live on a giant screen in Ingólfstorg square in downtown Reykjavík.
