Icelandic income distribution did not change significantly between 2015 and 2016. According to the latest figures from Statistics Iceland the Gini index fell by 0.6 points, from 24.7 to 24.1, which is not statistically significant. Iceland had the lowest level of income inequality within Europe in 2016.

One way to measure income inequality is the Gini index. A higher Gini index value means greater inequality, while a lower index value means inequality is lower. Three other countries had a Gini index value of 25 or below in 2016: Slovakia (24.3), Slovenia (24.4) and Norway (25).
