United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, has taken a hard stance on Iceland’s whaling policy by not inviting the country to the 2014 Oceans Conference. Iceland is one of the largest fishing hubs in the North Atlantic, and their exclusion from the conference sends a clear message from the United States that whaling will not be accepted.

In fact, Össur Skarphéðinsson a former foreign minister told RUV.is that this signals a tougher stance against whaling, and Iceland should expect stricter action if no changes are made to the current legislation.

Our Ocean’s aim is to, “bring together individuals, experts, practitioners, advocates, lawmakers, and the international ocean and foreign policy communities to gather lessons learned, share the best science, offer unique perspectives, and demonstrate effective actions.”
