Iceland is considered a safe but expensive country to visit, according to World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report for 2015.
The report, published every two years, analyses the performance of 141 economies through their travel and tourism competitiveness and explores how the travel and tourism sector has responded to economic, security and health shocks over recent decades. Each country was graded in 14 categories, with the final rankings being determined by an average.

Overall, Iceland is ranked number 18 in travel and tourism competitiveness while Spain was named the world’s most tourist-friendly country this year. France came in second, followed by Germany, the US and the UK.
When it comes to safety and security, Iceland placed fourth on the list. Finland topped the safety and security list and was followed by Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

However, travelling in Iceland is considered to be quite costly – the country came in at 128 on the price competitiveness list. The other Nordic countries are also considered expensive, Finland ranked number 121, Sweden 134, Denmark 135 and Norway 137.
