Iceland’s unbelievable success in the European Championship has put the country in the limelight. According to news website Vísir, Iceland has been a trending search topic on Google over the past days. Iceland hasn’t received this much attention since 2010 when the infamous Eyjafjallajökull erupted, causing enormous disruptions to air travel across the continent.
Inga Hlín Pálsdóttir, director at Íslandsstofa (which aims to enhance Iceland’s image and reputation), claims the team’s phenomenal advance in the championship will have positive effects for the country.
“People are curious about Iceland and are searching for information on the internet. We’re very excited to see what will follow,” she said.
