Iceland among the top three countries that generated the most e-waste per capita in 2014 2745

Iceland is among the top three countries that generated the most electronic waste per capita in 2014, reports the National Broadcasting Service.

According to a new report conducted by the United Nations University, a record amount of electronic waste was generated across the globe last year. 41.8 million tons of refrigerators, televisions and washing machines and other electrical devices were thrown away in 2014.

Although the U.S. and China generated the most e-waste last year (32 percent of the world’s total), it were Norway, Swiss and Iceland that generated the most e-waste per capita.

Norway topped the list with 28.4 kiloes (62.4 lbs) per inhabitant while Swiss came second with 26.3 kiloes (58lbs). Iceland took third place with 26.1 kiloes (57.3lbs) per person. Denmark, UK, the Netherlands, Sweden, France, the U.S. and Austria followed suit.
