Iceland among the top ten countries that scored highest for unhealthy foods, reveals new study 2438

A new study assessing the quality of people‘s diets in 197 countries across the world, shows that Iceland is among the top ten countries that scored highest for unhealthy foods. The study, published in The Lancet Global health journal, covered the diet of almost 4.5 billion adults.

According to the Daily Mail researchers viewed the changes in diets between 1990 and 2010 in 197 countries all over the world. They analysed data on the consumption of seventeen key food items and nutrients related to obesity and major diseases such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and diet-related cancers.

Their findings revealed Chad, Sierra Leone and Mali to have the healthiest diets overall, while Armenia, Hungary and Belgium had the least healthy diets overall.

Iceland ranked number 6 among the countries that scored highest for unhealthy foods, with Azerbajan taking the undesirable first place. Tunisia, Barbados and Cape Verde scored highest for healthy foods.

This might come as a surprise, seeing as the Channel 4 documentary, The World’s Best Diet, recently revealed that an Icelandic diet, consisting of fresh fish, quality meat and dairy products, is among the healthiest in the world.
