Roughly 2100 people flocked to Viðey island, off Reykjavik in Faxaflói bay, yesterday evening, on John Lennon‘s birthday, to witness as Lennon’s widow, the artist Yoko Ono illuminated the Imagine Peace Tower. The tower will remain lit until December 8, the date of Lennon's death.
According to the National Broadcasting Service, a record number of people attended the ceremony this year.
It took two hours and four boats to ferry the crowd to and from the island.
